Homeware high street sales tumble ending four-week run

Homeware sales on the high street fell, ending a positive run of four straight week, as overall sales increased.

According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose +1.75% for the week ending 19 July 2026, marking a fifth week in a row of growth.

Homewares total LFLs decreased by -12.90%, from a positive (adjusted) base of +18.70% for the same week last year.

Store homewares sales fell by -13.00% this week, compared to +0.66% for the same week last year. Non-store homewares sales fell by -11.45% this week, compared to +9.45% for the same week last year.

Total store LFL sales grew by +3.36% this week, compared to a positive base of +1.70% for the same week last year. Total non-store LFL sales increased by +1.52% this week, compared to a positive base of +6.53% for the same week last year.

Commenting on the results, BDO said: “Total store LFL sales have grown for three consecutive weeks, while total non-store LFL sales have grown for five consecutive weeks, albeit at a slower rate each week.

“The UK’s weather was dominated by the third heatwave of the summer, with very hot and largely dry conditions across England and Wales, while Scotland and Northern Ireland were a little cooler. The heat gradually eased toward the end of the week.”

Springboard data showed overall footfall increased by +1.1% this week, driven by high street footfall (+2.0%) and retail parks footfall (+0.7%), while shopping centre footfall fell by -0.5%.
