Furnishings group posts half year sales growth; UK down

Luxury interior design and furnishings group, Sanderson Design Group PLC, has reported a growth in half year sales.

According to its latest trading update for the six months ended 31 July 2026, total sales rose 6% to £51.4m from £48.3m against the comparative period.

UK brand product sales fell 8% to £14m, while North America revenues rose 16% to £13m. Northern Europe sales increased 2% to £4.4m, while Rest of the World sales were unchanged at £4.1m.

Total manufacturing sales increased 19% to £17.2m, with licensing revenues rising 13% to £4.9m. Direct-to-consumer revenue rose 137% to £1.6m, representing an “important, high margin”, growth area.

In the US, the group said performance was driven by its expanded network and its ability to create designs aligned to significant demand from US buyers for Sanderson’s heritage British brands and sought-after designs.

Lisa Montague, Chief Executive Officer of Sanderson Design Group, said: “This H1 performance demonstrates the strength of our brands and the successful execution of our strategic priorities. Continued momentum positions us well to deliver full year results in line with expectations. Our balance sheet remains strong with net cash of £10.2m on 31 July 2026 after having purchased £1.4m of shares into the EBT.

“We are particularly excited about our prospects in the US, where trading has been excellent with a clear upward trend. The US represents a major growth opportunity where our strategy to develop relationships with and collaborate with industry experts and celebrated designers has proven key to stimulating demand.

“We have been invited to join the global Design Leadership Network, an exclusive non-profit organisation for high end designers, architects and like-minded professionals, which deepens our access to the very best in our industry and provides valuable market insights.

“We were thrilled to welcome His Majesty King Charles III to our London headquarters at Voysey House in May. As a Royal Warrant holding business, we enjoyed the opportunity to show His Majesty some historically relevant designs from our archive as well as presenting him with new patterns, including The King’s Rose, which launched at RHS Chelsea Flower Show and was adapted from an early 20th-century wallcovering in our archive.

“The archive underpins our competitive advantage and the strength of our brands, which, alongside our exceptional design talent, international mindset, commercial agility and manufacturing expertise, have together delivered a strong first half and an encouraging pipeline.

“As we look ahead, we remain focused on delivering our strategic priorities and are confident in the Group’s ongoing ability to generate profitable growth.”
