Bed retailer announces transition to employee ownership scheme

Yorkshire based bed and mattress retailer, Time4Sleep, is putting its future in the hands of its 13 employees, cementing the people-first ethos that has driven it for over two decades

The leading bed and mattress retailer, Time4Sleep, has today announced its transition to an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). The transition is a significant step for the Yorkshire based company, and one that places the business’s 13 employees at the centre of its future.

Under the EOT structure, a majority stake in Time4Sleep has been transferred into a trust held on behalf of all employees. Managing director Jonathan Warren and family retains a 20% personal shareholding and he will continue in this role, ensuring continuity of leadership and ensuring there is no impact on day to day operations, whilst empowering the team to share in the business’s future prosperity.

Employees will also gain formal representation through a Trust Board, with a staff-elected employee trustee ensuring the team’s voice is heard at the highest level of governance. The business will remain independent, customer-focused, and rooted in the values that have underpinned its growth, including quality products, honest advice, and a commitment to helping customers get a better night’s sleep.

Founded in 2005 by Jonathan and headquartered in Elland, Yorkshire, Time4Sleep has grown from a start-up bedroom retailer into a successful ecommerce business generating approximately £10 million in annual revenue. The company sells an exclusive range of beds, bed frames, and mattresses to customers across the UK, combining competitive pricing with an award-winning customer experience.

The business places a high emphasis on product quality, and ensures that all stocked beds and mattresses are tested and evaluated. This reputation for quality has also seen Time4Sleep become a go-to supplier for major high street retailers.

Jonathan Warren adds: “Employee ownership isn’t just good for our team, it’s good for our customers. When every person in the business has a genuine stake in the outcome, the service gets better, the knowledge runs deeper, and the care people take goes up a level.

“We’ve built Time4Sleep on a simple idea: visit the factories, test the products, cut out the middleman, and sell a better bed at a price that doesn’t give customers nightmares. From our multi-million pound warehouse in the West Midlands, providing fast and reliable delivery, to our founding principle of providing high quality beds at competitive prices and excellent customer service, every decision we make puts our customers and our staff first.

“The people who’ve helped to make Time4Sleep a success story for nearly twenty years deserve to own a piece of what they have created. This is their business now, and I can’t wait to see what we do next together.”

Time4Sleep will continue to trade as normal, with its full range of beds, TV beds, bed frames, Ottoman beds, and mattresses available for next-day and express delivery across the UK.
