Fashion and homewares retail chain Matalan has reported a slight uptick in sales as losses narrowed.
According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 28 February 2026, total sales rose 0.1% to £986.5m from £984.6m in 2025.
Pre-tax losses resulted at £36.3m, narrowing from a loss of £45.4m recorded the previous year.
Stated within its report, the company said: “The year-on-year increase being driven by the additional trading week and strong online growth, offset by a slight reduction in store sales despite a strong improvement in trading performance from our refreshed store estate.
“Despite the additional trading week, the Group’s International franchise business saw a year-on-year sales decline as a number of key franchise partners in the Middle East and Mediterranean coast were negatively impacted by the challenging macro-economic conditions and regional political instability.”
