Sales continue to grow at online furniture business

The parent group behind online furniture retailer Furniturebox has reported a growth in sales but saw profit fall into the red.

According to the latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 July 2025, total sales rose 4.1% to £26.6m from £25.6m in 2024.

UK sales increased to £19.6m from £18.9m, while EU revenues fell to £387,000 from £707,000. Rest of the world sales grew from £5.9m to £6.6m.

Pre-tax losses resulted at £613,000, down from a profit of £444,000 recorded the previous year. Gross profit margin was up 1.4% to 30.83%.

Stated within its report, the company said: “The 2024-2025 financial year delivered continued progress for Furniturebox. Revenue increased compared with the prior year and gross margin improved, reflecting the underlying strength of the business and continued customer demand.

“The Company recorded a loss of £571,449 primarily as a result of increased investment in marketing to support future growth, alongside continued investment across our people, technology and operational capabilities.

“Whilst this resulted in a reduction in retained earnings and net assets during the year, the Board considers these investments to be deliberate and appropriate. The business remains focused on building long-term value rather than maximising short-term profitability, and we believe the investments made during the year have strengthened the business and improved its future growth prospects.

“The wider trading environment remained challenging throughout the year. Consumer confidence continued to fluctuate, cost-of-living pressures persisted and international developments, including uncertainty around US tariffs and global trade, created additional complexity across supply chains. Against this backdrop, we remained disciplined in balancing commercial performance with targeted investment.

“The business continued to make meaningful operational progress. We refined our priorities, invested further in our people, systems and processes and improved the efficiency of our operations, leaving the business better positioned for the future.

“A significant milestone during the year was the launch of the refreshed Furniturebox brand. The rebrand reflects the Company’s evolution and reinforces our commitment to making well-designed furniture more accessible whilst continuing to deliver an outstanding customer experience.”
