Burnley-based furniture business EMM Furniture Ltd has been fined £20,000 after being found guilty of fly-tipping.
Blackburn with Darwen Council were alerted when the company fly-tipped two tons of waste on the grounds of Royal Blackburn Hospital, Lancashire, in April last year.
Following an investigation, photos of the fly-tipping revealed commercial rubbish, pieces of wood and other waste contents, which was dumped in shrubbery and left hanging from trees.
Investigators spotted a £20 takeaway receipt among the waste, which included an address that was later revealed to belong to EMM Furniture.
Furthermore, investigators found matching waste bags at the address as well as the same van that was initially reported by an eye-witness at the time of the incident.
Burnley Magistrates’ Court ordered EMM Furniture to pay a £20,000 fine, £539 in council costs, and £354 in compensation for clearing the waste following a hearing that took place at the end of last month.
