A director of East Lancashire-based furniture business Zas Furnishings has been struck off by the Insolvency Service after employing illegal workers.
Syed Ali Abbas (Mr Abbas) breached his duties as the director of Zas Furnishing Ltd by failing to ensure that it complied with legislative requirements.
Zas did not comply with its statutory obligations under The Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006 resulting in the employment of two people who did not have the right to work.
“Home Office Immigration Enforcement (HOIE) after investigating ZAS issued a Notification of Liability for a Civil Penalty of £90,000 in respect of the employment of these workers, payment of which was due on or before 4 September 2025,” a statement from the Insolvency Service said. “Zas has not paid the penalty due to HOIE.”
Mr Abbas was an appointed director of the company at the time of the breach of the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality legislation. Mr Abbas has been disqualified as a director for a period of five years.
